Pace Around The World FAQs

The Big Team Challenge Platform

How do I access the platform?

  • Go to the Big Team Challenge website or download the app by searching for “Big Team Challenge” in the App Store or Google Play.
  • If using the app, you’ll be asked for the challenge name you are a part of on the first screen, you’ll need to type “pacearoundtheworld”. The website link will take you straight to our challenge.
  • Select ‘No – I want to sign up’.
  • Complete your details, ensuring you use the email address you used to register for the challenge with Katharine House Hospice and enter the access code “33500” when prompted.
  • Select the team you are part of. All the team names are listed from the information we received when you registered. If you are not part of a team select the ‘Individuals Team’. You MUST select a team, otherwise you won’t count as an ‘active’ participant.

What can I do on the platform from 26 May before the challenge officially starts?

We will be asking everyone to register on the platform in the week leading up to the challenge but no steps or activity will be uploaded during this time. It’s simply a time to get everyone ready for the challenge to begin.

How exactly does the virtual route work?

Will I see a map, milestones or country info as I progress?

On the platform that all participants will have access to, you will see in real time, where we are all up to on the map. You’ll see milestones as we pass by and we will make announcements at key parts of the journey.

Will there be reminders or progress updates during June?

Yes, we will be making announcements on the platform about the progress everyone is making.

Is the goal for each participant to complete a certain distance or is it purely a collective team effort?

There is no set distance for each participant to complete, every activity counts towards the collective goal of travelling 40,549.1 miles (65,329.9km) in 30 days.

Can I take part if I’m not very active? Is the challenge suitable for people with mobility limitations?

Yes! We’re encouraging everyone in our community to take part at their own pace. Whatever activity you do will contribute to our overall goals.

Why is the event restricted to ages 18+?

This is a challenge for 18s and over due to the GDPR regulations applying to the virtual challenge platform.

Do I need to start on 1 June or can I join late?

The challenge will start on 1 June, however you can do your steps (or other activity) whenever it suits you. It really is very flexible. You can do as much or as little as you can, anywhere and at a time to suit you (as long as it’s during the month of June).

Activity Tracking

How do I log my steps or activities?

You can either track your activities as you usually would on your activity tracking app and sync it up to the platform or you can manually add activities onto the platform.

If I don’t have Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Health or Health Connect, is manual entry easy?

Syncing steps is the simplest way to add your daily activity to the challenge. You can sync your steps from Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Apple Health on iPhone, and Google Fit and Samsung Health on Android. Alternatively, you can manually add your activity via the challenge website and our challenge app.

How are non‑step activities (cycling, swimming, gardening, wheeling, pilates) converted into steps or distance?

When you add activity manually to the platform you can convert your activity into steps (the platform will help you with this).

What happens if the platform goes down or my data doesn’t sync? Is there a helpdesk or support email during the challenge?

Our team will be on hand to help with any technical issues throughout the challenge. You can contact them via email [email protected]

Joining as an individual or team

If I join as an individual, will I still be part of a community or group?

Yes, we all work as a team together. You can also get competitive with other teams and individuals (if you wish) and you will be able to see a leaderboard on the platform.

How do teams work? Can we create our own and is there a limit on team size?

You create a team when you register for your place via our website. Anyone you know can join that team by simply adding the team name into the relevant box when they register. You will then be able to see your team on the challenge platform.

Teams can be pretty big – up to one hundred people!

Can workplaces, schools or clubs enter teams?

Yes, we’d encourage this. Teams can be made up of any groups or you can also do this challenge as an individual. But remember, everyone must be aged 18 or over.

Costs & fundraising

Is the £50 fundraising target mandatory or just encouraged?

We are asking each participant to fundraise a minimum of £50 to help us raise as much money from this event as possible, whilst also ensuring it’s an achievable target for all. You can get some ideas on ways to fundraise for the challenge on our Fundraising A to Z page.

What happens if I don’t reach the £50 minimum?

If you don’t reach the £50 target, one of our team will be in touch with you to see if they can support you in fundraising this amount. Alternatively, you can self-fund the amount at registration.

Does the registration fee count toward the £80 total mentioned?

The standard registration fee forms part of the £80 we have mentioned. If you raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship then, together with the standard registration fee of £30, your gift of £80 could fund a visit from one of our Palliative Care Community Nurses to a patient in the comfort of their own home.

For those of you who claim our early bird registration rate of £20, together with the minimum sponsorship of £50, your £70 will go directly towards supporting the work we do both at the hospice and out in the community.

T-Shirts

Is the T‑shirt included for everyone and can I change the size later?

There is an option to order a T-shirt as part of your participation in the challenge. You can also choose not to have a T-shirt. We will order the sizes requested at registration, so we ask that you check the size guide below carefully before ordering.

When exactly will I be notified about collecting my T‑shirt?

Once the T-shirts arrive, we will email you to let you know when you can collect from the hospice.

If I pay for postage, how long will delivery take?

Posted T-shirts will be sent one week before the challenge, so you can expect to receive your T-shirt during the week of 25 May 2026. We are not responsible for any delays in postage.

If you live outside of Great Britain, we regret that we cannot send T-shirts.

What if the T‑shirt doesn’t fit, can it be exchanged?

We will be ordering T-shirts based on what sizes participants specify at registration, therefore we are unable to exchange T-shirts. We’d encourage you to check the size guide below carefully before ordering.

Why your support matters

It costsmore than £5.9m per yearto run every elementof Katharine House Hospice, which equates for £16,261 each day.

While Katharine House Hospice receives some funding from the government to cover these costs, our fundraising and retail teams still have to raise two-thirds of the running costs every year and we rely on the generosity of our community to help us.

Your fundraising enables us to keep delivering our services for free to support adults with life-limiting illnesses.

You can view some of our patient and family stories here to see how fundraising directly benefits patients in our care.

“No amount of thanks can express our gratitude and love for you all. Your care and love shone out to us all in our time of need.” Patient’s family
