Why did you choose to support Katharine House Hospice with your fundraising?
We are keen to give back to our community that we value so strongly here at Hardwick, we had heard about the Santa Run and were keen to get involved. We do something called ‘Big Hearts’ here at Hardwick where each class takes responsibility for running and organising an event each year, which makes money for a worthy cause in our community or supports the community in some way.
“Our Santa Run was a joyful, whole-school event filled with festive music, Christmas jumpers and lots of smiles.”
Tell us a bit about your event or activity
We took part in this year’s Santa Run and went green by not requesting Santa hats. All the children wore a Christmas jumper and went on a run around the school. Mrs Taylor played lots of festive music to get us in the Christmas spirit, our Sports Leaders ran the course with the classes to show them the way and the big man himself, Father Christmas, even came to cheer us all on. As a thank you to the children for their contributions to raising money for Katharine House, Santa went to each class after the run and delivered them a Christmas story as a gift.
What tips would you pass onto other fundraisers? What worked well for you?
Try to make your event as fun and memorable as you can. We were very grateful Father Christmas made time in his busy schedule to cheer the children on, and the children enjoyed it too!

How much did you raise?
Thanks to the generosity of our families, we raised £353 for Katharine House Hospice. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful to everyone who supported the event. It was a memorable day for our school and we are delighted to have been able to support such a valued local charity.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us?
As part of our ‘Big Hearts’ initiative, each class at Hardwick takes responsibility for organising an event that supports a worthy cause or gives back to the community. This felt like a perfect example of that in action, the children had fun, worked together and learned that small actions can make a big difference.
