Accumulator Challenge

Brackley Tangent: multi-award winners

Brackley based community group, Brackley Tangent, took part in the 2024/25 Accumulator Challenge and were one of the most successful teams that year, winning two awards and raising over £3,600 for the hospice.

Brackley Tangent had nominated Katharine House as their charity to support in 2024, so when they heard about the Accumulator Challenge they thought this would be a fun and different way to support the hospice.

The all-female based community group has historically raised money for the hospice via sponsored events and challenges and they agreed that it was time to try something new. Gabrielle from Brackley Tangent said: “The Accumulator Challenge looked like an interesting way to raise money and involve all members of the teams, making it accessible for everyone.”

As soon as the team were signed up, they started to plan their events over the four-month period between October and February and set a target to raise £3,500. The team really wanted to involve the community so planned events that would engage with the local community and raise awareness of the work that the hospice does, which is what landed them the Community Award.

The activities throughout the challenge included a collection day on Brackley High Street, a Bingo night, raffles and a Vinted shop. The team also used their creative craft skills and held four craft fairs throughout the challenge, including one at Brackley Football Club.

Brackley Round Table Santa Float

In December, the ladies battled the elements and joined the Brackley Round Table Santa Float and their attendance that night raised them a further £450 into their fundraising pot, so well worth the effort.

To increase their fundraising pot, the team also used their business connections and applied for match funding from businesses where they could, including a £500 match funding donation from Green Plant UK.

The last hurrah!

To end their fundraising challenge, in February they held a cake sale at Banbury Rugby Club. The team were strategic with their planning and chose a date when they knew it would be busy at the club, with the ‘minis’ all having a visiting team and the ‘juniors’ home training, plus the ‘colts’ had a game too. The team were there from 9am to 2pm and sold more cake than you could shake a rugby ball at!

“It was a great team effort and I was amazed and impressed at all the hard work everybody put into it. Katharine House is a popular charity and we were well received in the community and supported in all our efforts.”  Gabrielle

Teamwork is dreamwork

A combination of forward planning, determination, creativity, teamwork and utilisation of their skills and networks is what made Brackley Tangent one of the most successful teams in the 2024/25 Accumulator Challenge. Not only did they win the Community Award, they also raised an incredible £3,677 in just four months, smashing their original target and winning the Most Funds Raised by a Community Group or School Award.

Thank you to everyone at Brackley Tangent for working so hard to raise vital funds for the hospice and raising awareness of the wonderful work that Katharine House does.
