How we can support you with your Open Garden event
Find out how we will help you ahead of your Open Garden event and the level of promotion support the hospice will provide.
Considerations ahead of the event
When you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a call from a member of the team at Katharine House to find out more information, so it would really help us if you can give some thought to the following before then.
- Cost of entry. Don’t undersell your event and all the hard work that goes into it. Think about what is included in the ticket price and you can think of other ways to bring in more donations, such as serving refreshments or selling plants.
- How are you planning to sell tickets?
- Time of opening.
- Are dogs allowed?
- Are refreshments being offered?
- Description and photos of the garden(s).
- Any accessibility issues.
- Any other attractions.
- Will all proceeds come to Katharine House Hospice?*
- Where would you like visitors to park?
- Directions to your village/garden.
* Please note that if proceeds are to be split between causes, you need to make this clear in all your publicity and materials so as to not mislead garden visitors. It may also limit our involvement in terms of promotion and insurance (as outlined above).
Support with promotion
It is up to you to promote and publicise your event. Katharine House will assist you in the following ways.
- Create a page about your Open Garden on the Katharine House website.
- Provide you with branded materials and resources.
- Send you a flyer that has all our Open Garden events listed to distribute to your own contacts.
- Promote the Open Gardens scheme in general in press releases, in our newsletters and in our magazine, The Rose.
- Publish two posts on social media prior to your event, one of which will be a paid advert specifically about your Open Garden event and the other post a more general post about our Open Garden events (paid ads will only be offered to Open Garden events where all the proceeds come to Katharine House Hospice).
- Ensure you are registered as a volunteer of Katharine House Hospice and ask you to complete a risk assessment to extend our public liability insurance to your event (if proceeds are split, the claim would lay against whoever was negligent).
