John’s Snowdon Sunrise Story

John Skinner completed our Snowdon Sunrise challenge in 2024. He looks back on the experience and shares what’s driving him to take it on again in September 2026.

Name: John Skinner
Event: Snowdon Sunrise Challenge September 2024
Venue: Snowdon, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales

Amount raised: £630

Why did you choose to support Katharine House Hospice with your fundraising?

I chose to support Katharine House Hospice because of the service that the hospice provides to the community in and around Banbury when it matters most.

Tell us a bit about your event or activity

I’m taking part in the second Snowdon Sunrise challenge that the hospice has organised – an early start to reach the top of the mountain just as the sun is rising.

Having taken part in the first Sunrise challenge in 2024, it ticks all the boxes for me – out on a mountain, stretching yourself as a small pay-back for the huge amount of effort and dedication that the staff at the hospice put in… and hopefully getting to see the sun rise from the summit, if the Yr Wyddfa weather gods are willing to play ball.

What tips would you pass onto other fundraisers?

Although I put my fundraising page onto LinkedIn, I found that making direct appeals to people I know personally worked the best.

How much did you raise?

I raised £630 in 2024 and I’m hoping to at least match that again this time.
