Challenge events fundraising pack

If you’ve signed up for a challenge event and have a minimum fundraising target to reach, then this is the page for you.

Welcome to our challenge events fundraising pack for anyone who has signed up to a challenge event and has a minimum fundraising target to reach.

We hope that our tips will help you not just to reach your target, but to smash it!

First things first …

Set up your online sponsorship page. You may not be able to raise everything you need by asking for sponsorship alone, but setting up a JustGiving page is a good place to start. But before you set up your JustGiving page, it’s important that you read our participant Gift Aid information page.

Now find a variety of ways to fundraise …

1 Think about your skills

Fundraising for your challenge event can be a lot of fun. Think about the skills that you’ve got and the events/products or services that people in your community or workplace might pay for that you could offer.

Maybe you’re a keen golfer, baker, music lover, dancer, singer, knitter, sewer, crocheter, painter, sculptor, walker, runner, football player, rugby player or cyclist. Whatever your passion, there’s always a way to turn it into a fundraiser.

2 Think about your sponsorship target

Breakdown your target into manageable chunks. In that way it fill feel far less daunting.

Then think about:

  • How much could I raise from a sponsorship page?
  • How much could I raise from an event, product, service or collection? Or a series of events, products, services or collections?
  • What different networks can I tap into (so that you’re not asking the same people for money over and over again)?
  • Does my workplace offer matched funding?
  • Who can help me? Can I create a fundraising group to help me raise the money?
  • Am I prepared to make a personal donation? (Lots of our participants do this to cover the event cost for their challenge event.)

Worried about meeting your sponsorship target?

We’ve asked two of our fundraising champions, Claire and Carley, to share their ideas with you for chunking down a fundraising target into smaller, less fearsome amounts. Watch their advice on these two videos, which follow on one after the other. Sit back and enjoy!

3 Two’s company, three’s a … fundraising group

You don’t have to do it on your own! Ask your friends and family for help, especially if they have good contacts and networks or have some great skills and experience that they could bring to your fundraising. Perhaps you have a friend who has a big following on social media, or someone who is good with designing posters.

The more heads and hands available to pitch in, the more you’ll enjoy it, the easier it will be, and the greater success you’ll have.

Pre-event fundraising targets: why they are important

For many of our challenges, part of the sponsorship money you raise will be used to pay for the event costs. These costs must be paid to our event providers, which is the reason we set pre-event fundraising targets so that we can pay for the cost of your place on the challenge event without any financial loss to the charity. If you are not able to meet the pre-event fundraising targets set out for your event, then we can offer you the opportunity to make up any different personally. We cannot pay for places where participants have not reached their pre-event fundraising target.

You can find your pre-event fundraising targets in your registration email. If you are unsure of your targets, please contact us and we’ll confirm them with you.
